Minister: Rev. Christopher Watt

Hello friends, my name is Christopher and I have the privilege of being minister here Newbattle: St Nicholas Buccleuch, which includes the churches of Newtongrange and Mayfield & Easthouses. When my wife and I first came and looked at this church when we were considering applying the thing that struck us most was what a welcoming and friendly group of people the congregation are and I really hope you experience the same if you come and visit us.

As for a wee bit about me, well I grew up in Ayr before moving to Dumfries in 2009 to practice law. It was in Dumfries that I met my wife Erin through our local musical theatre group that we were both involved in and the rest they say is history! I stopped practicing law in 2020 and started training for the ministry a decision that I have never once regretted. The training for a minister requires 3 years of study and placements before finally undertaking an 18 month probationary placement. Having successfully completed my training I served as an Assistant Minister in a parish outside of Dumfries for a year before accepting a call to Mayfield and Newbattle.

When not working I love to bake, play the piano and clean the house.

I love being a minister and the best bit about it is the chance to meet different people and see how I and the church can help them further. Ultimately the goal is of course to help you to believe in Jesus for it is through believing in the Son of God that we can ensure our eternal life.

So if you are reading this thinking should I come visit this church, perhaps you have not been for years, or perhaps you’ve never been at all, know that you will receive a warm welcome and a friendly face. You will not be judged for your the choices you have made in your life but instead you will be gently guided towards a relationship with God that will change your life forever!

I look forward to meeting you soon
